The 2017 CrossFit Open is almost here! Friday Night Lights celebrates the Charter Oak community and we look forward to seeing everyone take part. It is 5 weeks of fun workouts with a kicked up atmosphere in the gym. Oh, and we like to have a celebratory beer after.
Every Thursday night the WOD is announced on the CrossFit main site. Starting Friday morning, Charter Oak athletes will give it their best shot. The 5:30, 8:00 and 9:30 AM classes will run as normally scheduled. In the evening, the festivities kick off at 5:00PM. We will run different heats of the workout with a suggested warm up. The excitement of having a gym full of friends cheering will help you get those few extra reps!
Feel free to bring friends and family to watch you or come spectate yourself if you aren’t competing or already completed the workout earlier in the day. It’s a fun night to cheer everyone on and see people hit PRs and goals. Plus we will probably go grab food together after. And who doesn’t love food?
No problem, you can still complete the wod and earn a point for your team by coming to open gym on Sunday and doing it then.
Every athlete completing the workout by Sunday night earns a point for their team. The top male and female Scaled and RX athletes earn additional points for their team. There will also be some pop-up competitions throughout the week where you can earn extra points towards your team taking home Iron Oak Status.
There will be an RX, Scaled and Master’s versions of each workout. We will find something you can do!
Life will go on! Just get your butt back in the gym for the next one!
Ummm, yes! We may recruit you to help count reps for your teammates though!
The Open is the first stage of the CrossFit Games season and the largest community event of the year. Every year, hundreds of thousands of athletes come together to compete in the worldwide, online competition. Anyone aged 14 or older can compete in the Open. All you have to do is sign up at games.crossfit.com and log your score each week. Workouts are released on Thursdays at 5 p.m. PT, and athletes have four days to complete the workout for the week and submit their score. Scores are due before 5 p.m. PT the following Monday.
Nope! You are certainly welcome to and we encourage it (it’s fun to see how your performance stacks up against the rest of the world) but you can also save your $20 and just see how you stack up in the gym.
