Leah is an active duty Air Force Major who is currently pursuing a PhD in Psychology and the University of Connecticut. She has been stationed in Kansas, Ohio, Colorado, and moved to Connecticut in early 2017.
Leah grew up in Kansas, playing competitive softball, volleyball, and basketball as well as weightlifting with the high school football team. She attended the Air Force Academy where she was on the softball team. After graduating in 2008, she found herself athletically lost after not having rigorous military training all the time. Leah tried running, personal training, and random cardio equipment at the gym but nothing got her the results she was looking for nor gave her the energy and camaraderie that her team-based sports had done in high school and college.
In 2010, Leah’s husband, Andrew, talked her into trying CrossFit – she instantly took to the team aspect of classes, the strength-based movements, as well as the continual challenge as there was always something to work on. Leah started coaching CrossFit the same year at CrossFit Wright-Patt at Wright-Patterson Air Force Base, Ohio. Leah and Andrew were Air Force Lieutenants and part of the founding members of CFWP, a military affiliate and was completely run by volunteers and active-duty military members.
Leah has competed in the Central East Regionals in 2011, 2012, and 2013 as a team member of CFWP and Centerville CrossFit and also qualified as an individual in 2012. Although her extreme-competitive days of CrossFit are a thing of the past, she loves the functional fitness CrossFit brings to her life. She has the energy to chase her toddler and husband around!
Because of CrossFit, Leah has maintained a level of fitness beyond her dreams! Diet (as a noun, not as a verb) has become a major part of her life. She’s done several different approaches including Paleo, Whole-30, and several sugar detoxes but has found incredible success with counting Macronutrients. After her pregnancy, Leah has lost a total of 60 lbs and weighs less than she did in high school, feels much healthier, and is never hungry. She’s excited to call Charter Oak CrossFit her fit family!
